Disappointment in Hershey for Girls Tennis Team

One thing the girls tennis team doesn't know a lot about is losing, but one thing they know for sure is that they don't like it.  "It was awful!" said junior Caitlin Clemons of the girls' outing at the team state playoffs in Hershey.  "We got hammered in our matches.  I can't even explain it."  Frustration was pervasive that day; girls that had gone undefeated all season couldn't seem to get their game together on Friday.

The frustration experienced in Hershey will continue to haunt the team, unfortunately.  It is for this exact reason that head coach John Dorner is unhappy that the girls are required to join a league.  The girls face little competition in their league, and then find themselves unprepared to compete with the top players in the state at the end of the season.  Clemons agrees.  "I would much rather lose a few matches during the regular season and play tough competitors, than win effortlessly all season only to lose at states."  "It's exciting to win all the time," said senior Rajjoub, who also lost her match at the team playoffs, "but it's more meaningful to win regions and states."

This weekend sophomore Taquoia Lee, junior Caitlin Clemons, and senior Raneem Rajjoub will travel back to Hershey for the PIAA singles and doubles championships.  Lee and Clemons will battle for the title in the doubles competition; and Rajjoub, after battling back from a XXXXXX deficit in the regional playoffs, will seek the state singles title.
